
The American baobob (Americadansonia grandis) is a species of deciduous tree, most closely related to the baobabs (Adansonia), that originally did not exist, but has since been created by SciiFii and introduced throughout the open woodlands, grasslands, shrublands, scrublands, and deserts across North America to help boost biodiversity. The American baobobs are among the most long-lived of vascular plants and have large flowers that are reproductive for a maximum of 19 hours at a time. The flowers open around dusk; opening so quickly that movement can be detected by the naked eye and are faded by the next morning. The fruits are large, oval to round and berry-like and hold kidney-shaped seeds in a dry, pulpy matrix. The fruits of the American baobob trees are primarily fed on by adapiform primates, capuchins, macaques, plesioadapiforms, fruit-eating bats, opossums, raccoons, and other arboreal frugivores and omnivores. The tree is pollinated by nocturnal mammals, such as lemur-like adapiform primates, pollinating bats, birds such as hummingbirds, and insects such as nocturnal butterflies and nectar-drinking moths. The adapiform primates move through the canopies, inserting their snouts into the white flowers and licking nectar from the petal bases, resulting in pollen being deposited in the adapiform primates' faces, whereas the bats, hummingbirds, butterflies, and nectar-drinking moths are more effective at pollination because they are able to fly from tree to tree with most of their bodies covered in pollen. Lack of water can be a problem for many trees in the more arid parts of North America. The American baobab overcomes this by storing water within the fibrous wood of the trunk, as the tree's diameter fluctuates with rainfall. The American baobob can survive for many years without water, similarly to cacti, allowing this species to flourish in deserts, unlike most other trees. The conservation status of the American baobob is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts and the American baobob's wide range.
