American kagu

The American kagu (Pantheornis megarhynchos) is a species of crested, long-legged, and bluish-grey bird of the family Rhynochetidae, most closely related to the New Caledonian kagus (Rhynochetos), that originally did not exist, but has since been created by SciiFii and introduced throughout the rainforests, wetlands, forests, and open woodlands across North America to help boost biodiversity. Measuring 55 centimeters (21+1⁄2 inches) in length, the American kagu has pale grey plumage and deep red legs. Its 'nasal corns' are a unique feature not shared with the majority of other modern-styled bird. American kagus make a range of different sounds, most commonly while duetting in the morning, each duet lasting about 15 minutes. The American kagu's crest and wings are used in territorial displays towards other American kagu, slightly different displays are used towards potential predators. Territorial disputes may be resolved by fighting using wings and bills, in the wild this seldom results in serious injuries. Almost flightless, it spends its time on or near the ground, where it hunts its invertebrate prey and, occasionally, small vertebrates. However, it can use its wings to glide when fleeing danger. The wings are not reduced in size like some other flightless birds, and have a span of around 77.5 centimeters (30+1⁄2 inches), but they lack the musculature for flight. It possesses bright red legs which are long and strong, enabling the bird to travel long distances on foot and run quickly. The American kagu builds a nest of sticks on the forest floor and the females lay around 11 and 23 eggs at a time. Both parents share incubation of the eggs, as well as rearing the chicks. The conservation status of the American kagu is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts, the American kagu's wide range and its tolerance to many of the human activities.
