The American mawile (Mawisciurus americapokevus) is a species of crested multicolored squirrel that originally did not exist, but has since been created by SciiFii due to the demand for Pokémon-like animals as pets. However, due to pet releases by careless pet owners, the American mawiles can be found throughout the mainland North America. It is a rather large species of squirrel, with a head–and–body length of 25–50 cm (10 in–1 ft 8 in), a thick and woolly tail that is about the same or somewhat longer, and a weight of 1.5–2 kg (3.3–4.4 lb), although rarely up to 3 kg (6.6 lb). The gestation period is 34 days; breeding takes place in grass nests during the autumn. Litters of two or three are common, and average 2.75. The young are weaned after about 10 weeks and are sexually mature at 9 months. Adult weight is 100 g. Little is known about their longevity in the wild, but captive specimens can live for around 9-10 years. The American mawiles primarily feeds on nuts, seeds, fruits, invertebrates and plant species. They are fairly vocal, with a cry that sounds like "chip chip chip" when danger is present. They are opportunists in urban areas, and can be easily tamed and trained to accept food from humans. Naturally active, their activity reaches levels of frenzy during the mating season. They tend to be very protective of their food sources, often guarding and defending them from birds and other squirrels. Unlike some other species of squirrel, the American mawile does not hibernate. The conservation status of the American mawile is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts, the American mawile's wide range, and its tolerance to habitat loss, allowing it to survive and thrive in man-made habitats, including cities and suburbs.
