American megapode (SciiFii)

The American megapode (Floricephalon americanum) is a species of megapode, most closely related to the orange-footed scrubfowl (Megapodius reinwardt), that originally did not exist, but has since been created by SciiFii and introduced throughout the rainforests, wetlands, forests, and open woodlands across North America to help boost biodiversity. The American megapode is a rather large megapode, with its total length averaging about 60–75 centimeters (23.5–29.5 inches) and a wingspan of about 85 centimeters (33 inches). It has a prominent, fan-like tail flattened sideways, and its plumage is primarily deep brown with a chestnut-colored breast and a more dull brown rump. The American megapode is an omnivore and feeds on seeds, fallen fruits, and terrestrial invertebrates. As with other megapodes, it nests in large mounds of sand, gravel, leaf litter, sticks, and/or other debris where the heat generated by the decomposition of organic material serves to incubate the eggs. Construction and maintenance of the mounds, which may reach 4.5 meters (15 feet) in height and 9 meters (30 feet) in diameter, takes place throughout the spring every year. The abandoned American megapode nests are often used by female dragon tegus (Dracosalvator giganteum) to lay their eggs. The conservation status of the American megapode is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts, the American megapode's wide range and its tolerance to many of the human activities.
