American pangolin (SciiFii)

The American pangolin (Pholidopedipoda stegus), also known as the false pangolin, is a species of mammal of the anteater family Vermilingua, despite its name, that originally did not exist, but has since been created by SciiFii and introduced throughout the rainforests, swamps, forests, open woodlands, and grasslands of North America to help boost biodiversity. The American pangolin is a shy, slow-moving, nocturnal mammal. It is about 84–122 cm (33–48 in) long from head to tail, the tail usually being 33–47 cm (13–19 in) long, and weighs 10–16 kg (22–35 lb). Females are generally smaller than the males and have one pair of mammae. Like true pangolins, American pangolins have large, protective keratin scales, similar in material to fingernails and toenails, covering their skin; they are one of the only known mammals with this feature. They live in hollow trees or burrows, depending on the environment they live in, and can dig their own burrows with their sharp, strong claws. American pangolins are insectivorous and their diet consists of mainly ants and termites, which they capture using their long tongues. They tend to be solitary animals, meeting only to mate and produce a litter of two to four offspring, which they raise for about two years. The conservation status of the American pangolin is Least Concern due to successful conservation efforts, the North American pangolin's wide range and its tolerance to many of the human activities.
